Expedite Aadhar linking of MNREGA workers: DM

Tehri DM Jyoti Neeraj Kherwal reviewed the progress of MNREGA in the district at a meeting held at New Tehri here today. She expressed dissatisfaction at the delay in linking of Aadhar cards of workers under various development blocks in the district. She directed the officials to complete the Aadhar card linking work in a stipulated time and at an increased pace. She directed the District Development Officer to take stock of the progress on a daily basis. She said the gram panchayats where jobs had been given for 70-80 days should make an effort to provide jobs for 100 days and where the jobs had been given for 40 days, proposals be made for 60 days’ work at the block development officer level. The District Magistrate directed the officials that the SC/ST dominated gram panchayats should be selected for 100-day jobs in the proposals at priority level to improve the economic condition of the marginalised people. He has been told by the PMO that he will receive a digital copy of the Aadhar card in a week's time and a hard copy in a month's time. The Prime Minister's Office seems to be on its toes when it comes to resolving complaints that it receives. The latest story is of a financial consultant who was reportedly unable to procure Aadhar cards for his aged parents till the PMO stepped in, according to a report in a leading English daily. Raja Sivaram from Kerala says he was running from pillar to post to get Aadhar cards for his parents who were not able to physically visit an enrolment centre. After trying various modes, he finally wrote to the Prime Minister's office last Thursday. On Sunday morning, an Aadhar team reportedly reached his house in Palakkad with a computer, webcam, fingerprinting machine and an eye scanner to record the biometrics of his parents. Drinking liquor cannot be controlled through Aadhaar cards.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court said Wednesday that liquor consumption cannot be controlled by utilizing Aadhaar cards. The court was responding to the argument that complete liquor prohibition is not practical and that it must be controlled through Aadhaar cards. The court also commented sarcastically whether the demand is for instituting subsidy for liquor. The hearing on state government’s arguments  on the appeal filed by bar owners against the liquor policy in now over.   “Liquor is available in plenty at shops run by beverages corporation.  The history of the formulation of liquor policy must be examined.  The government implemented the bar license policy stage by stage.  It is not correct to say that one has the right to renew the license just because the person already possessed a license,” SC said. BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to check irregularities, the Higher Education Department will link Medhabruti Scholarships with Aadhar cards of students. IT major Accenture has been roped in for building a new system - State Resident Data Hub (SRDH) - to help in management of identity-related de-duplication of students and verification requests from Department. The decision comes in the wake of irregularities in issuance of Medhabruti scholarships recently. The Make of the applications submitted for the purpose were found to be fake. The e-Medhrabruti website, through which students apply for the scholarship online, is maintained by Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL). Thanks to the Indian government's new move, Indian citizens might soon be able to validate the credentials of drivers and domestic helps using their Aadhaar card numbers, before they hire them. The government is planning to widen the scope of the Aadhaar authentication system. As of now, it has been restricted to banks and a few government departments, but soon, it would be open to individuals and private companies. In doing so, all privacy concerns would be addressed by using a more secure method. In exchange of a small fee, anyone would be able to use the unique identity number and verify the details of others. This would be allowed to done online in real time, unlike many other identity documents such as voter, ration and PAN cards. This would also allow companies to authenticate the records of their consumers and staff. Submission of Aadhar, PAN to speed up passport issuance

Chennai:  Submission of Aadhar card, PAN and voter identity card will speed up the process of issuance of passport to an applicant, a senior passport official said on Wednesday. “The ministry of external affairs (MEA) has brought in a new scheme under which a passport applicant will get a passport within three days if he/she submits Aadhar card, permanent account number (PAN) and voter identity card details in addition to other documents,” regional passport officer K. Balamurugan told reporters here. He said police verification will be done after the passport is issued and there is no additional fee levied under this scheme. The senior officer also said that the Centre was not thinking of making the Aadhar card compulsory for the issuance of passports. The Centre will soon write to the Tamil Nadu government to use mobile application for faster police verification of passport applicants, he added.
